Sato Sakura Gallery New York aims to showcase the compelling beauty of contemporary Nihonga Japanese paintings to the people of the world through its establishment in New York, the world’s prominent capital of the arts.

The gallery’s parent organization, Sato Sakura Museum in Japan, was founded to create a unique and rare opportunity to view contemporary Nihonga masterpieces. In October 2006, it opened its Koriyama branch in Koriyama city, Fukushima prefecture, followed in March 2012 by its Tokyo branch in Meguro ward, Tokyo. Moving forward as part of a momentous year, Sato Sakura Gallery New York opened its doors in September 2017 as a space where even more people could enjoy contemporary Nihonga.

It is our sincere hope that through our activities at Sato Sakura Art Museum in Tokyo and Sato Sakura Gallery New York, we will be able to provide a venue for people from around the world to appreciate and experience the allure and diversity of contemporary Nihonga painting
